David Grohl
Kurt Donald Cobain was born February 20, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington, a small logging town on the Pacific coast, east of Seattle. In junior high, he first discovered punk music, and spent most of his time skipping out of school, smoking pot, and listening to the tunes of British acts like the Sex Pistols and The Clash. After his mother kicked him out of her home, Kurt crashed at various friends' houses, even living under a bridge for some time. His first gig as a roadie came in the mid-eighties with the local band The Melvins. It was here he first met bassist Krist Novoselic. By December 1987, Kurt and Krist, along with drummer Aaron Burckhard had formed the original Nirvana line-up.

Krist Novoselic
Krist Novoselic was born on May 10, 1965 in Compton, California. His Croatian parents had immigrated there two years before his birth. The family soon moved to Aberdeen, Washington, but Krist, unhappy and an outcast, moved to Croatia to live with family. There he discovered punk music, made friends, and gained a new perspective on life. After a year abroad, he moved back to Aberdeen and began taking guitar lessons. He attended the same high school as Kurt, but the two were formally introduced by Melvins frontman Buzz Osborne. After hearing one of Kurt's demos, Krist decided to join with him to form a band.
